Catuaba root
Catuaba (Erythroxylum catuaba) is a fast-growing low tree, blooming with yellow and orange flowers, with inedible oval fruits. It grows in the northern part of Brazil. Only the top layer of the tree bark is prepared, which is quickly regenerated. In the bark of the catuaba there are such components as alkaloids, tannins, aromatic oils, resins, flavonoids, etc. In large quantities contains mineral substances and metals, including magnesium, potassium and calcium.
In Brazil, the catuaba is used as an aphrodisiac and for the treatment of many types of nervous disorders. It is recommended as a stimulant of the central nervous system and a tonic for brain activity. Treating nervous exhaustion, fatigue, withdrawal of general pain, insomnia, nervousness, pain in the nerves, improvement of sleep. This harmless aphrodisiac is highly effective and safe at long-term use. There have not been major studies on the toxicity of catuaba because of the centuries-old use of this product in Brazil, during which no case of toxic effects on the human body has been established.
